Evdokia is the name of not only one an important work of Greek cinema, but also one of the most important trees in Greece! 🌿 A grand old olive tree, she is estimated to be between 1000 and 1200 years old, making her one of the ten largest and oldest living trees in Europe!
🌿 Croatia recently crowned a 242-year-old Ginkgo their tree of the year, a piece of news that received more attention in this era of climate awareness than it would have done in years gone by. As more and more people become aware of their natural environments, we are increasingly realising how special our historic trees are. Travelers are placing more emphasis on sustainability and the industry in general is caring more about the theme of responsible tourism.
🌿 During March in Greece, the first shoots of spring are evident & the heat of the summer is still some months away. Conditions are therefore perfect for hiking, which is a fantastic way to get out and experience nature in all its glory. Corfu has some excellent routes, and the paths through central Corfu are some of my favourites. Not too long ago I started a hike in the village of Agioi Deka, and I was surprised to learn that I was standing on an extinct volcano!
So, if you decide to defy COVID-19 and take a trip this spring, why not go hiking in Corfu and pay a visit to our grand old lady Evdokia?
